Alaina’s Story

“I think anyone with POTS should come here because they are really focused on how to heal you instead of just covering it up. They look into what is causing your symptoms and give you a plan where you can get better.”

Alaina came to POTS Care after struggling with her illness for 3 years. Her diagnoses included POTS, Dysautonomia, Scoliosis, and Spina Bifida. Alaina also suffered from chronic abdominal pain. She had seen numerous specialists, and had been to Mayo Clinic, but continued to suffer with no answers. After a thorough evaluation, we were able to locate the underlying cause of Alaina’s suffering. She leaves POTS Care with a treatment plan in place, and renewed hope for the future.

INTERVIEWER: You have been through a lot in your journey. Can you tell us a little bit about your illness, what it has been like and how it has affected your life so far?

PATIENT: It started in 7th grade when I was 12 and the symptoms, like frequent urination and fatigue, really affected going to school. I had to drop out of school, and it just got worse from there. I went to several doctors and they did not really know what to do with me, and it just got to a point where I really could not do much, and it still has been affecting me since. The symptoms have grown and they have gotten worse.

INTERVIEWER: Do you feel that the care you received at POTS Care was different than previous care?

PATIENT: Yeah, especially! You look into it and find the underlying cause instead of just trying to put medication over symptoms and using biofeedback and exercise. That has not worked in the past, so I really appreciate that.

INTERVIEWER: Were we able to identify any underlying problems contributing to your illness that others have missed?

PATIENT: Yes, you found inflammation and the intracranial pressure that no one else has even looked for.

INTERVIEWER: Do you feel that we are using real science here at POTS Care?

PATIENT: Oh yes definitely!

INTERVIEWER: Do you feel like you have a better grasp on how you heal from your condition?

PATIENT: Yes, I have a lot more information that is going to help me. I have hope for the first time.

INTERVIEWER: That’s great! What would you like to say to the folks considering coming to POTS Care?

PATIENT: I think anyone with POTS should come here because they are really focused on how to heal you instead of just covering it up. They look into what is causing your symptoms and give you a plan where you can get better.

INTERVIEWER: That’s good. Mom and dad, do you guys have anything to add?

PATIENT’S MOTHER: I would encourage anybody, who has had the diagnosis of POTS to come here. It has given us hope for the first time that she is going to get better and the science, they are looking at every single puzzle piece which has been fantastic, and it is going to help her get better. I would encourage everybody with the diagnosis to come here.

INTERVIEWER: Thank you.

PATIENT’S FATHER: Me too. I just say that everyone here is great, you guys have been wonderful. You are great people, and it is completely different than anything we have been to before. So, for people that just keep cycling through physicians and all that, just come here.

PATIENT’S MOTHER: You guys are very caring, very gentle. I am impressed so much with the amount of time that each of you have spent with us. I mean it is not a 5-minute in and out.

PATIENT’S FATHER: No, it is just the opposite here. We are overwhelmed with the information we get instead of underwhelmed.

INTERVIEWER: We are so glad that you guys have enjoyed your time with us.

PATIENT’S MOTHER: Yeah, so much, so much.

INTERVIEWER: Thank you for your testimony, Alaina.
